Do you miss "dressing up" for the meetings?
by dozy ini was thinking about this the other day when doing a bit of tidying up of my wardrobe.
all the kh suits are now pushed to the back of the wardrobe and i am seriously thinking about a visit to the charity shop to get rid of most of them.. for me one of the (few) enjoyable aspects of being a jw was getting dressed up.
my secular work very rarely involves putting on a dress suit & tie so i miss getting dressed up - smart suit , tie , shiny shoes , slapping on the aftershave.

When we wake up on the day that we have scheduled to study together, we say to each other: 'Guess what tonight is? Family Worship night! ' After that we let out a large sigh, turn to each other and say 'Fuck my life' in tedious synchronicity.

"How Awful This Place Can Be!" Life at Bethel by Keith Casarona
by Dogpatch inremember the video of all the nice dudes who were on the governing body in the 70s?
(here's a refresher).. well this is what their lives were really like - the same as when i was there.
by the time it got to the end, all was left was chicken backs.

2011 Pronunciation - my opinion
by Mad Sweeney inwe are now in the year 2011. you may recall some discussion at the turn of the century about how to pronounce the years 2000, 2001, etc.
it seems to me that the consensus was to say "two-thousand" and "two-thousand one" and so on.
but i think now that we are in the second decade of this century it is time to move on to the traditional two-number pronunciation system for the years and continue with it for the rest of the century.. just as 1975 is pronounced "nineteen seventy-five" and not "one-thousand nine-hundred seventy-five" it is time to pronounce the year 2011 as "twenty eleven" and not "two-thousand eleven.".

00s are pronounced by nearly everyone as "naughties" (UK anyway)
can we just say eleven now? Like we used to say ninety-nine (not 1999), doesn't feel right still!

Look at this funny cartoon spoof of the WT study -- Tell me what you think?
by MarkedFragile inthis clip is one of many cartoon spoofs of life in jw world.
this particular one is a cartoon play on the wt study.
one of my favorite parts is where the man is flipping pages in the bible, trying to find the scripture being read, and when he finds it, the person is already done reading it (which always used to happen)!

might be too late for her, seems like she's brainwashed already, if she's that down she'll probably get baptised anyway just for acceptance from the people around her

At at even more unbearably boring than usual Tuesday night meeting I decided to read the book of Romans from start to finish as something to do.
I had never read anything form start to finish before as I found there was never time to actually read anything besides the singles verses chucked around here and there, although JWs are meant to do their own bible reading I found with a full time job, 3 meetings a week, prep for those meetings, FS and all the other stuff to do I had zero free time, and if I did it was a saturday night at which time I just wanted to chill.
Anyway, I read it and all and what I read didn't gel at all with the 'good news' JWs preach. Actually it seemed very loving and basically said 'try your best'. At that point something clicked.
For years I'd put up with people acting badly, putting it down to imperfect behaviour, same for the obvious lack of love. Lots of things doctrinally didn't make sense, but I shelved them.
I think reading Romans along with also studying the Revelation book at the time, where it was obvious the WT had no idea what it was talking about, made me realise JWs didn't have the truth at all.
I was set to move congs as had just got married, missed some meetings due to the wedding, then honeymoon, then was ill for a bit - it resulted in about 6 weeks away and enough to shake off the brainwashing.
I looked into some of the doctrines in more detail, which ended up in proving to myself that the whole thing was made up, and then by extension realising that the bible was just as made up, and ended up agnostic.

Spanish JW admitted to Foundation for Pluralism and Coexistens".
by InquiryMan ini found this interesting information in the 2010 report on international religious freedom.
the government has taken steps to integrate non-catholic religious groups through the foundation for pluralism and coexistence.
the foundation provides funds to minority and religious groups to promote religious freedom and dialogue.

Door-to-Door Ministry in the UK: What is it Like?
by leavingwt infor those in the uk, what was it like to engage in the door-to-door ministry?
i watched the video below, today, and the author states that pushing your religion on others in the uk is considered crass.
further, he says that religion is a very private matter.

In an hour maybe 2-4 people are in, of those 90% will just say "no thanks" and close the door, 3% get annoyed and slam the door, 1% born agains who try and argue i.e. the trinity is correct, 5% people that take the mags to make the JW go away, 1% not-normal people that become RVs or bible studies.

High Profile Case: Seeking Reinstatement
by headisspinning inbut our situation is very difficult and quite high profile.... i was raised as a jw and my mother was very strict and abusive.
i got baptized at age 14.. my mother actually called on my (present) husband's mom in service.
she was on the initial call resulting in his mom coming in the truth and him being raised in it from about age 8 or 9.. despite a very abusive step-father, he followed his mom's lead and came into the truth.

Sorry to hear of your problems, I can only hope you will open your eyes and realise that what has happened is actually a positive which has set you free from a man-made cult so you can get on with your live without being enslaved to a storybook and live a happy life in the real world with (what sounds like) your soul-mate husband. x
